THE PIXI GLOW RANGE*

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! Life is currently a bit hellish given the whole dissertation and final year situation but that isn’t going to stop me from sharing the gorgeous Glow range from Pixi with you! I’m a super fan of the Glow Tonic itself (read my review here) so as you can imagine, when they added to the range I was over the flipping moon. They kindly gifted me their latest launches and I’m beyond excited to show you everything and share my thoughts!

*This post contains gifted products and affiliate links

Pixi Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel (ยฃ18.00)

The Pixi Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel is just dreamy. I’ve been using this every day for the last week and I think I’m in love. It’s the perfect cleanser to use first thing in the morning as it’s very refreshing and wakes me up, leaving my skin looking bright and radiant! I’ve also noticed that my face feels softer which means my makeup sits better on my skin too! It contains glycolic acid, horse chestnut extract, aloe and ginseng, all of which help hydrate and purify the skin. It’s a yes from me!

Pixi Glow Tonic (ยฃ10)

The Pixi Glow Tonic is practically superglued to my skincare collection. It’s going absolutely nowhere as it’s a huge staple for me. It’s something that I recommend to absolutely everyone. I’ve never actually suffered from severe acne or bad skin but whenever I have had blemishes, they leave a mark for months. I was so self conscious of these marks and dark spots that I didn’t go anywhere without makeup. The glow tonic has helped my skin to heal so much! I now no longer struggle with scars or marks anywhere near as badly as I used to. It basically exfoliates, tones and tightens the skin for healthier looking skin (and a gorgeous glow too). I strongly recommend giving this product a shot as it’s completely transformed my skin and I can’t go without it now! It’s suitable for all skin types and it’s alcohol free too.

I’ve written an in-depth review about this stuff so if you want all of the details, head over to my post and give it a read.

Pixi Glow Tonic Serum (ยฃ26.00)

The Pixi Glow Tonic Serum is effectively the glow tonic but in a thicker and more concentrated form. It has the same gorgeous scent too. I was concerned that it would leave my skin feeling greasy and sticky but because of its lightweight formula, my skin absorbs it quickly, free from tackiness. I’ve been using this, as instructed, after I’ve cleansed and before I moisturise. It makes my skin look hydrated and dewy, which is exactly the look that I want when I’m going barefaced for the day! The packaging is also really lovely, I like the concept of using a pipette as it ensures I don’t overdo and waste any product! It goes exactly where I want it to go.

Pixi pHenomenal Gel (ยฃ24.00)

The Pixi pHenomenal Gel is pretty much the perfect lightweight summer moisturiser. It’s definitely going to be coming with me on holiday this year. It’s so soothing and cooling – I might start keeping it in the fridge! My skin absolutely loves this stuff and it gets such a boost from it. I like to use this before I apply my makeup as it provides a fresh and hydrated base. It’s also pH neutralising to help balance the skin. It doesn’t have the same scent as the other products which is a shame, but as I’m finding it to be so effective I don’t really mind.

Pixi On-the-Glow (ยฃ18.00)

The Pixi On-the-Glow Multi-Use Moisture Stick just isn’t for me folks. I rarely have any issues with Pixi products but unfortunately I just didn’t get along with this. Initially, I thought the concept was really cool; an on-the-go moisturiser that’s solid so it doesn’t leak or need squeezing, no fuss, just apply and go. When I actually tried it on my skin, I found it to be really thick and it just didn’t sit right. When I do use it on my face, I apply it to any dry patches (with my fingertip) as sparingly as I can so it doesn’t build up. It claims to be suitable for hair too but honestly, I couldn’t think of anything worse – I feel like its would make it really oily and greasy. I’ve actually been enjoying using this as a lip balm instead of a moisturiser and it works really well. It also means that my satin lipsticks sit nicely on top of it too. I reckon this moisturiser would be perfect for those that struggle with really dry skin as it’s extremely hydrating.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Pixi Glow products. I’m so glad that they’ve expanded the range as the Glow Tonic is a cult favourite and it was only a matter of time before we were all desperate for more of that magical formula! What are your favourites? Have you tried this range yet? Let me know in the comments! Iโ€™ve put links to all of my social media down below and Iโ€™d love it if you would come and say hi!

TESTING ALDI’S PINK CLAY SKINCARE RANGE

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well. I know that this is my month off but when Aldi releases new sellout products, you just can’t wait around! Today, I’m putting one of their new skincare ranges to the test. I want to see if their beauty bargains are merely just cheap and cheerful or whether they actually give those more expensive ranges a run for their money. In this review, I’m focusing on their Lacura Pink Clay skincare collection, which has received a lot of attention within the beauty community. It includes a mask that they launched last year two new products that they have launched this month; a hot cloth cleanser and a face scrub. Want to know what I think? Let’s get started!

*This post contains affiliate links

Pink Clay Mask – ยฃ5.99

As you can imagine, I practically sprinted to my local Aldi in order to get my hands on this. If you haven’t noticed already, it’s takes “inspiration” from a certain brand called Sand & Sky. Their Australian Pink Clay mask went viral last year, which was great for those that can can fork out ยฃ40 for their little pink tubs of goodness, but for those of us who can’t, Aldi heard our prayers and launched an almost identical product for ยฃ5.99. Their Lacura mask promises to detoxify, brighten and purify (all things that my skin is in desperate need of) all whilst remaining cruelty free. It contains ingredients such as Kaolin, Bentonite and Pink Clay.

Inside, we get an adorable little brush for application and a 60g jar of product. I always apply my masks with a brush as it’s far less messy and I find it spreads them more evenly without wasting any product on my hands. I expected this brush to feel cheap and flimsy but it’s actually great quality. Good work, Aldi!

In terms of a scent, it smells so clean and fresh. The texture is where I thought Aldi might slip up, I was expecting something runny and difficult to apply. However, this mask is thick and creamy. It feels expensive and high-end! It feels a little bit tingly at first but that stops after a few seconds and then it starts to dry really quickly. As instructed, I leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off with warm water. The results have been very telling. This thing WORKS! My skin immediately looked cleaner and brighter and after a few uses, my whole face was glowing and there wasn’t a blemish in sight. I’m mindblown. I’ve tried the Sand & Sky mask too and honestly the results are no different. For ยฃ5.99 you’re getting yourself a damn good face mask people!

Pink Clay Hot Cloth Cleanser – ยฃ3.99

If you’ve read my review of the Superdrug Naturally Radiant range, you’ll know that I love a good cleanser. I can’t afford to be using something that costs a fortune – especially if I’ll be using it every day, so I’m always looking for dupes and bargains. This Aldi Pink Clay Hot Cloth Cleanser only costs ยฃ3.99 so I thought it was definitely worth testing! The cleanser promises to give you “naturally healthy looking skin” by cleansing and exfoliating. It’s cruelty free and it contains lots of natural ingredients featuring Mangosteen, Australian Kakadu Plum and Macadamia Oil. It also claims to be suitable for any skin type. The tube contains 200ml of product and every single part of the packaging can be recycled – YES ALDI!

This hot clot cleanser comes with a muslin cloth, with can be used to wash the product off and to help remove any makeup. I ditched makeup wipes a while ago because they were awful for my skin and they don’t do the environment any good either. These cloths can be reused over and over again – just pop them in the washing machine!

In terms of a scent, it smells beautiful – very fresh and it kind of reminds me of the Emma Hardy Morninga Cleansing Balm. It feels so luxurious on the skin, I feel like I’m using something super expensive. I apply a small amount to my face (dry) and once I’ve soaked the muslin cloth in hot water, I rinse it off! It really is that simple. My makeup comes off in one go and my skin is left feeling silky soft and squeaky clean. I’ve already noticed that my skin looks much brighter and I’m having less breakouts which is always a win! I’m really impressed and I will definitely be repurchasing. I highly recommend giving this a try if you want a good cleanser in your life

Pink Clay Exfoliating Face Scrub – ยฃ2.99

I never used to bother with face scrubs until I realised that exfoliating was actually regularly really important. Aldi introduced this ยฃ2.99 scrub just over a week ago and I just had to try it out. This Pink Clay Face Scrub claims to refine and mattify the skin, removing dead skin cells and absorbing excess oil.

Just like the other products in the range, it smells lovely. I always apply it to wet skin and massage for 30 seconds, as instructed and I use warm water to rinse it off. I also found out that it can be used as a mask! All you have to do is leave it on for 5 minutes before washing it off – we love a multi-tasker here on Nina Louise Law and I think we’ve found a new one to add to our favourites. I absolutely love how clean it makes my skin feel and I can see there are visibly less blackheads and spots after a couple of weeks. My skin looks more even and balanced which is something I need as it scars really easily. This is definitely worth trying out – I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know!

So, in conclusion, the Aldi Pink Clay Skincare range is a MUST for anyone looking to save some money whilst still being able to invest in great high quality skincare. I would recommend using all three products as part of your skincare routine, as they all work so well together. I think that’s the most effective way of achieving the best results. My skin is so much cleaner, clearer and brighter and I can’t believe that I managed to get my hands on the whole range for under ยฃ15. I highly recommend trying these out and please do let me know what you think in the comments – I’d love to hear about your results too! I’ve put links to all of my social media down below and I’d love it if you would give me a follow – come and say hi!

BIRCHBOX APRIL 2019: YOU’RE A GEM – REVIEW

Hey Everyone,

I hope youโ€™re all doing well! Although I said that I wouldn’t be posting over April due to deadlines and exams, I couldn’t just forget about my monthly Birchbox review, could I? I was over the moon when this beautiful little box arrived at my flat this week, I don’t think I have ever needed a pick-me-up more in my life! Before I begin, Iโ€™ve included some information about what Birchbox actually is, how much is costs and all that jazz below! If you already know all of this, feel free to carry on scrolling.

About Birchbox –

Birchboxย isย a UK beauty subscription service that sends beauty boxes to their subscribers containing 5 goodies every month. You donโ€™t have to worry about lifelong commitments or contracts. In fact, you can cancel anytimeย with a monthly subscription โ€“ no fuss whatsoever! The monthly subscription costs only ยฃ10 per month plus ยฃ2.95 P&P! You can edit your beauty profile on their site to ensure you get sent products that are suitable for your skin/hair type and personal preferences. Birchbox is great for discovering new brands and products. I have been subscribed to Birchbox for years and I still look forward to receiving their boxes every month.ย Iโ€™ve gone on to buy lots of the things Iโ€™ve been sent because I have loved them so much. Every box you receive is beautifully packaged, some months are designed and inspired by artists and companies. I use some of the boxes to store makeup in too! If you want to try Birchbox for yourself,ย click here and use my referral link to get ยฃ5 off your first box!

This monthโ€™s box is about embracing the beautiful season that is, of course, Spring! The healing power of crystals is also referenced and although this isn’t something that I believe in, I love the idea of self-care and positive vibes – especially during my final term at university! This month, we have received cosmetics and products for our skin, body and hair! Two items are full sized too. The design is absolutely gorgeous, I love the bright and bold colour scheme. It also flips open, like a jewellery box rather than the usual sliding drawers that we get. Although I was originally digging this new style, it’s actually really flimsy and it’s already coming apart. Normally, I’d re-use the boxes as storage but I’m not sure how long this one will last. Either way, letโ€™s see whatโ€™s inside shall we? RRPs correspond to full-size items atย birchbox.co.uk/shop.

ESTATE Cosmetics Dew Me Baked Highlighter – in Lit (Full Size) – RRP ยฃ10

This highlighter is from the brand Estate cosmetics, which I’ve actually never heard of, but I love being introduced to new brands so I’m cool with that! The packaging is fairly basic, but it’s quite cute and girly too. I like the way that it opens, no fancy bits and bobs, it’s pretty straightforward. The highlighter itself is stunning, I just love the shade. If you have skin with yellow undertones like me, I think this beautiful vanilla shade will be a great match for you. Typically, I find the consistency of baked highlighters to be quite powdery but this one feels soft and silky. It’s really easy to apply and blend and for those that want a more intense glow, it’s can definitely be built-up to a blinding level.

Benefit – The POREfessional – RRP ยฃ28

Probably the most disappointing product that I received. I have actually been sent this by Birchbox before but that wasn’t the main issue for me. Could it get any smaller? I feel like Tinkerbell could just about get what she needed out of this tube. It would’ve been nice to be sent something slightly larger so we get a chance to properly use the product . Either way, I do actually really like this primer. It feels so silky soft and leaves my skin looking airbrushed every time I use it. I like using it on my nose and under my eyes to reduce the appearance of pores and lines. It’s just a bit too pricey for me so I tend to find cheaper alternatives but it’s nice to try it every now and again…even if it’s miniscule.

Vitamasques – Diamond Eye Pads – RRP ยฃ4.99

I love anything that can get rid of puffiness from my eyes! Some mornings I wake up and they just feel really irritated or scratchy and it’s products like this that I keep ready and waiting for those days! It contains caffeine to hydrate, brighten AND de-puff, all in 10-15 minutes so you’re getting a fabulous multi-tasker here. The packaging, although really difficult to photograph, is so pretty! I love that it’s completely holographic – it looks so luxurious and glam! I’m definitely going to save this for when I really need it – no doubt I’ll be getting puffy eyes as soon as it starts getting colder in Autumn (joy). Is anyone else absolutely dreading waking up to a dark sky every morning?

Human+Kind – Body Souffle – RRP ยฃ16.45

Who doesn’t love a moisturiser during summer? I always like to keep my skin as hydrated as possible whilst it’s hot and sunny outside – protect your skin kids! I usually have a hand cream in my bag all the time and I now make sure that I moisturise every single night before bed. I’ve used some products from Human+Kind before and I’ve loved them so I knew that this would be a new fave of mine. Their packaging is always so bright and pretty – it just screams summer. It also smells incredible and contains aloe vera and lots of botanical oils! I will definitely be taking this on holiday with me to keep my skin hydrated every day!

Beaver – Cherry Blossom Conditioner – RRP ยฃ19.40

If you’ve read my post all about my first tattoo, you’ll know that cherry blossom is one of may favourite things ever. I love the fragrance of it almost as much as I love the flowers! This conditioner smells UNREAL. It’s like they’ve bottled up a tiny piece of heaven. It has a strengthening, balancing AND detangling formula that keeps hair hydrated and nourished – another must during summer! I’m really impressed with the size of the sample too – it’s enough to get a good few uses out of it. I will also be taking this on holiday with me as all my hair will definitely need some TLC after being exposed to all of that chlorine every day!

Overall I’m really happy with this month’s box. I’m slightly disappointed with the size of the POREfessional sample but because of how much I love everything else, I’m okay with that. I absolutely love the highlighter, the eye pads, the body souffle and the conditioner – all of which I know that I will get so much use out of. The value of the products inside the box, altogether comes to ยฃ78.84, less than last month but still really good value. The subscription itself costs only ยฃ12.95 per month, which I think is more than worth it if you get to try a variety of products that you wouldnโ€™t normally invest in! Are you subscribed to Birchbox or any other beaut boxes? Let me know in the comments.ย Check out last monthโ€™s Birchbox review!

SEE YOU IN JUNE

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well. Today’s post is slightly different but I want to keep it real with you and let you know where I’m at in life!

When I first started my third and final year at university, I knew what was coming but it was such a long way off! I wasn’t worried and I kept saying “Oh it’s fine I’ve got ages!” Now, it’s weeks away and I cant’ quite believe it. I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time in the library, or had so many sleepless nights in my life! Just to give you an idea of how much work I have to do, I have four separate deadlines all in the space of two weeks (including my dissertation, ouch) and then I have three exams (double ouch). I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but lets just say there’s a lot to do before I get there!

I’ve decided that the most sensible thing for me to do is to put blogging on hold whilst I tackle this chapter. That means, I’ll be back in June! There may be one or two exceptions but on the whole, those two months will be spent focusing on my studies and working hard on everything that my final year is throwing at me!

I’m already looking forward to coming back, see you in June!

GETTING MY FIRST TATTOO

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! In the midst of all of my deadlines and a very important final year at university, I accidentally stumbled into a tattoo parlour and booked in for a two hour session. I think the main thing holding me back, was the unknown. How much will it hurt? What if it goes wrong? What does it feel like? Will they be nice? Can I bring someone with me? I thought I would talk you through the process itself and answer as many of those questions as possible. I hope that this helps those of you that are scared or apprehensive about getting tattoos and for those of you that have been there and done that, I hope you like how mine turned out!

What does getting a tattoo feel like?

First things first, make sure that your blood sugar levels aren’t low on the day. The most common cause of fainting whilst getting a tattoo is because of the sudden drop in your blood sugar levels. It’s how your body naturally reacts when it feels pain so that is totally normal! My session was booked in for 1 o’clock so I had time for a proper breakfast and then I topped up on some sugary snacks and drinks whilst I was waiting. Once I arrived, my tattoo artist, Magda, sat down with me and showed me the design, which I LOVED! She printed off a few different sized templates for me to choose from and once I had made a decision, she stuck it to my ankle so that I could see where it would sit and how it would look.

What does getting a tattoo feel like?

I couldn’t figure out what all of the wires and the equipment was for when I first looked at it. It all looked so intimidating and I started to panic a tiny bit. I think that’s natural when you start to see all of the actual tattooing gear.

What does getting a tattoo feel like?

It was when I saw the bed that my nerves really kicked in. I’m sure lots of you will be thinking what’s all the fuss about, it’s just a tattoo, right? Well it was my first ever experience of getting one and it wasn’t just a small symbol either. With two hours ahead of me, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I was shaking like a leaf and I couldn’t stop fidgeting! I made the mistake of sending my Dad this photo and he kindly replied “Looks like an operating theatre…” – lovely, thanks Dad? Magda suggested that I should lie on my side so that she could easily access my ankle and my leg and so that I would be comfortable.

What does getting a tattoo feel like?

I climbed on and lay there shaking (pathetic I know) whilst I clung onto my pal for support – her fingers actually went purple at this point. I asked Magda to count down from three so that I knew when it would begin and so I could see what it felt like before we carried on.

What does getting a tattoo feel like?

Let’s talk pain. Yep, it hurts. Not all the time, but it does hurt. Some people say it does and some people say it doesn’t – I think it totally depends on where you’re getting the tattoo and the shading that your design requires. The best way that I can describe it is that it’s like a persistent, sharp cat scratch. It’s actually more of an annoyance than anything else. We’re talking claws out, get off me you little shit kind of scratching.

Some parts were more painful than others. For example, the back of my leg was really painful but the front was something I became used to after a while. Like I said, I think it totally depends on the location of your tattoo. The shading was also quite painful but again, it was bearable once I knew what to expect. When it was time for my second tattoo, I was totally fine with it and I was even disappointed when it was all over!

What does getting a tattoo feel like? My first Tattoo experience

Excuse the blotchiness and the unflattering angle but this was the finished design! When we first moved into our house, my Dad planted a Cherry Blossom tree in our garden. We had a swing set right underneath where the blossom would fall. We used to spend hours in the garden playing on the swings, particularly during the Summer. It was one of our favourite things to do! After Ben died, I knew I wanted a tattoo that represented something that we had together. I wanted something that at first glance, people wouldn’t understand, something unique and personal.

That’s when I knew I wanted Cherry Blossom. One year, whilst we were playing in the garden, we both came face to face with a bee that seemed to be leaking something all over the paving stones. I started screaming that the bee was having a wee and Ben began to howl with laughter (we were only little, hence the toilet humour) and it became one of my favourite and funniest memories!

What does getting a tattoo feel like? My first Tattoo experience

This one was designed with my mum in mind. Every night before I went to sleep, mum would come into my room and talk to me about my day. If I was anxious or worried about something she would say the following Chinese proverb to me: “Do not fearย going forward slowly; fear only to stand still.”. The words clicked with me and they began to really mean something as I got older and was able to grasp the literal meaning behind it. It continues to shape me today and it has been the most soothing of thoughts at some of the hardest times in my life.

I thought the best symbol to represent these words was a semi-colon: not quite a full-stop but a pause before continuing. I’ve been struggling with chronic anxiety and depression since childhood. There have been times when itโ€™s been manageable and there have been times when itโ€™s just unbearable but itโ€™s been a huge part of my life for many years. The one thing that has remained consistent is the support from my mum. I knew that the semi-colon was also a symbol for mental health so it all began to click into place from there! Mum has always loved painting in watercolour, so I wanted to incorporate that with the proverb that she has always told me.

What does getting a tattoo feel like? My first Tattoo experience
What does getting a tattoo feel like? My first Tattoo experience

*UPDATE – I returned for my touch-up and I asked for a couple of small changes. Don’t get me wrong, my original tattoo was beautiful and I was really happy with it but once it had healed and I had gotten over the initial excitement of it all, I realised it wasn’t quite what I had envisioned. I had a chat with my tattoo artist and she was more than happy to include these changes in my free touch-up! I explained that I wanted something that looked like a watercolour painting, much softer and almost like you could see the water splashes and where the paint had bled. After an hour, I basically had the tattoo that I had always dreamed of.

If you compare the pictures, you’ll see how much it has changed. There’s so much more detail and the whole thing looks softer and more delicate. Moral of the story is, if you have ANY doubts about a tattoo that you’ve had done, say something! Even if you’re worried about it being an awkward conversation (a professional wouldn’t allow that anyway), it’s on you for life so it’s more than worth it just to make sure you’re happy.

Do you have any tattoos? Are you planning on getting one? Do you have any questions? Let me know in the comments! Don’t forget to follow me on my social media – come and say hey!

BIRCHBOX MARCH 2019: YOU GO GIRL โ€“ REVIEW

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well and that you’ve had a great week so far! I’ve been enjoying the first week in a while where I haven’t had to work on my dissertation. I literally spent all day every day over the last two weeks in the library! People must have wondered if I had anywhere else to go. Good job scanning our student cards on the barriers goes towards our attendance…Thanks to Birchbox, I had some new beauty treats to come home to after a long day at the library and that means it’s time for another review! Before I begin, Iโ€™ve included some information about what Birchbox actually is, how much is costs and all that jazz below!

Birchbox is a UK beauty subscription service that sends beauty boxes to their subscribers containing 5 goodies every month. You donโ€™t have to worry about lifelong commitments or contracts. In fact, you can cancel anytime with a monthly subscription โ€“ no fuss whatsoever! The monthly subscription costs only ยฃ10 per month plus ยฃ2.95 P&P! You can edit your beauty profile on their site to ensure you get sent products that are suitable for your skin/hair type and personal preferences. Birchbox is so great for discovering new brands and products. I have been subscribed to Birchbox for a long time now and I stil look forward to receiving their boxes every month. Iโ€™ve gone on to buy lots of the things Iโ€™ve received because I have loved them so much. Every box you receive is beautifully packaged, some months are designed and inspired by artists and companies. I use some of the boxes to store makeup in too as theyโ€™re too pretty to throw away! If you want to try Birchbox for yourself, click here and use my referral link to get ยฃ5 off your first box!

This month’s box is all about celebrating women, which is fitting given that international Women’s Day was on Saturday! Birchbox have provided us with a selection of beauty products that can help keep us feeling fresh and glam even when life is feeling pretty hectic. This box couldn’t have come at a better time either because with all of these deadlines, it’s been easy to forget about self-care! Let’s see what’s inside shall we? RRPs correspond to full-size items at birchbox.co.uk/shop.

The Beauty Crop “You Go Girl” Bronzer Compact – in Sardinia Sand – RRP ยฃ8 (Full Size)

Apparently Spring is on it’s way but knowing the UK, the weather is bound to go in all kinds of directions before that day arrives. After getting a taste of that summer sunshine a few weeks ago, I’m more than prepared to add some colour to makeup routine! When it comes to bronzer, I’m painfully predictable, I mainly stick to Benefit’s Hoola most of the time. It’s the perfect shade for contouring on my skin tone and I just love the formula. That’s why I fell in love with this bronzer from The Beauty Crop. I was a tiny bit unsure when I first saw it but as soon as I’d done swatches, I was obsessed. I simply apply it with a big fluffy brush and voila, I look sun-kissed even if I haven’t left the library for a week!

Chella – Eyebrow Defining Gel – in Clear – RRP ยฃ15.50 (Full Size)

I can’t believe that I never used brow gels as they’re now a staple in my makeup bag! This one in particular is a new favourite of mine. It’s clear, so it’s perfect for setting your brows in place on top of powders, pencils or pomades and would also work on it’s own too. It tames and locks brow hairs into place so that they don’t budge all day! It also doesn’t give that horrible straw-like texture that some other brow gels do. I’d definitely recommend giving this a try if it’s within your budget, but it is quite pricey and this is the full size version of the product too!

Generation Clay – Detoxifying Clay Mask – RRP ยฃ28.50

This was the product that we were able to choose in advance, to be included in this month’s box. I love clay masks and I find that they offer the most benefits for my skin. This one in particular, is packed with activated charcoal to draw out any impurities, whilst hydrating and boosting the skin too! It also reduces the appearance of pores and prevents a build up of oil. Who would’ve thought that one mask could be capable of all of that within 10 minutes? I’ll let you know how I get on with this over on my Instagram, so be sure to give me a follow (@ninalouiselaw)!

Caudalie – Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum – RRP ยฃ29

I really love Caudalie’s skincare so I was really pleased to find this product in my March Birchbox! This serum is 97% natural and it’s oil free, so you don’t have to worry about feeling like an eel after you’ve applied it to your skin. Apparently, it uses the “power of grapes” (never heard that one before?) to rejuvenate and hydrate dry skin. With the stress of third year finally catching up with me, I’ve never needed a skincare saviour like this more! I can’t wait to see the difference that it makes to my skin.

BOD – Glitter Body Scrub – in Pink Salt & Coconut – RRP ยฃ4.99

I have to admit, I tend to use scrubs on my face but not so much on my body. However, the fact that it’s pink and glittery had me really keen to use it. The first thing I noticed when I tried this product, was that the glitter literally just fell off whilst I was scrubbing and the scrub itself felt quite harsh on my skin. I’m all for some exfoliation every now and again but this was really rough and I would’ve preferred something softer.

Charlotte Tilbury – Scent Of A Dream – RRP ยฃ49

I don’t know about you, but I had no idea that Charlotte Tilbury produced fragrances! This perfume features lemon, peach and black pepper, complimented by floral notes of jasmine, tuberose, violet, patchouli- and amber base notes (phew!). It’s not as sweet as the perfumes that I usually go for but it’s definitely growing on me. I probably won’t repurchase it but I’m glad I was able to try it!

Some of the items included just weren’t for me. I was excited for the scrub, but I was disappointed with how rough it felt on my skin. I was excited to try the perfume but it just wasn’t to my taste. I would have preferred a choice when it came to the fragrance, just because it’s something that really depends on an individuals’ taste and could even lead to the purchasing of the full-size product. I know I will use all of the other products, so I still feel as though I got my money’s worth to an extent. The value of the products inside the box, altogether comes to a whopping ยฃ134.99. I’d say I thoroughly enjoyed ยฃ81 of that and on any normal day, there’s no way I’d be able to spend that on products. I still think this month was good value! The subscription itself costs only ยฃ12.95 per month, which I think is more than worth it if you get to try a variety of products that you wouldn’t normally invest in! Are you subscribed to Birchbox or any other beaut boxes? Let me know in the comments. Check out last monthโ€™s Birchbox review!

TESTING PRIMARK’S – ‘GLOW’ SETTING SPRAY

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! I decided to treat myself to a mooch around my local Primark as it had been far too long and I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms. Of course, I was met with fast fashion and the latest beauty trends at unbelievable prices, ah the wonderfully worrying world of “How did they produce this that quickly?” and “Why is everything so cheap?”. There’s nothing quite like it. Speaking of Primark Beauty, if you haven’t already read it, I reviewed their ‘Nudes’ makeup range a while ago, and people still seem to be enjoying it! Give it a read if you want to find out a bit more about Primark’s makeup – who knows, you might even need a new setting spray to keep it all in place…

Whilst rummaging through what was left of the makeup section following an arrival of several heavily made up little girls (I’m not sure how to feel about this, given their makeup looked better than I could ever aspire mine to be… SOS) I stumbled across a new range of prepping and setting sprays. I’ve always been a sceptic when it comes to these. They’ve always been raved about in the beauty community, Urban Decay’s “All-Nighter”, being one of the best (and most expensive) sellers. I was never sure if they were worth investing in so, I decided to take the plunge! There were a few to choose from, Matte, Hydrate and finally, the one I chose, Glow.

According to Primark, Glow is a setting spray, infused with Vitamin B5, illuminating pearls and Aloe Vera. I liked the sound of this because I tend to go for a dewy look, I’m not a matte kind of girl and this seemed to tick all of the boxes. Not only does it claim to hold makeup in place, but it leaves your skin looking fresh with a healthy and radiant glow. It retails at ยฃ4 for a 110ml bottle, which I think is incredible value! If this turns out to work as well as some of those high-end setting sprays on the market, I think Primark are onto something. Also, I wouldn’t have to worry about using it every day, as it’s cheap to replace and purchase on a regular basis. I actually really like the packaging too, it’s nothing out of the ordinary but for ยฃ4, I wasn’t expecting it to be made of gold either. I’m getting some NARS vibes with that font too- anyone else?

So, how well does it work? I swatched some eyeshadow on my hand and then gave it a spritz of Glow. Firstly, I noticed that it did take a while to dry – roughly two-three minutes and that’s with lots of wafting, fanning and blowing too. Once it had dried, it felt quite tacky on the skin which had me worried at first but after a while it felt smooth and almost like it wasn’t there at all. I tried to smudge my eyeshadow but it was going absolutely nowhere. The tiniest bit of product shifted but 99% of it remained exactly where I had put it. It also has a fresh and pleasant scent, I was kind of expecting to be knocked out by chemicals! Nobody wants to leave the house smelling like a scientific experiment so it’s nice that they’ve paid attention to this detail.

In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting it to be that good, and I have to admit, it’s giving the likes of Urban Decay a run for their money. I cannot recommend this setting spray enough, for the price, the look and the quality – it’s absolutely worth trying out. Don’t forget, if Glow doesn’t sound appealing to you, there’s two other sprays in the range. If you’d like me to review the others, let me know and I’ll test them out! What do you think of setting sprays? Do you have any favourites? Have you tried Primark’s new range? Let me know in the comments!

MAKEUP REVOLUTION: FOREVER FLAWLESS OPTIMUM PALETTE REVIEW, SWATCHES & PHOTOS

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! Today, I’m reviewing one of the latest additions to the Makeup Revolution family. The Forever Flawless range was released a few weeks ago and I’ve been putting the palettes too the test ever since. I thought I would review the one that caught my eye first; The Optimum Palette! As usual, I’ve included lots of photos and swatches to help you make your mind up – be sure to let me know what you think in the comments!

*This post contains affiliate links

PACKAGING & PRICE

I was immediately impressed with this packaging. It’s different from their usual style, this time made from tin, it feels more sturdy and luxurious than some of their other palettes. I’m a huge fan of all things marble so the palette’s exterior had me ready to purchase before I even know what was inside. I also love the rose gold raised font too, it looks so classy! How much is it? The Optimum Palette retails at ยฃ10 which is a bargain and a half for 18 eyeshadows. Where can you buy it? You can get hold of the Optimum Palette from Makeup Revolution’s website itself or through Superdrug (which does student discount and has a point system too)

WHAT’S INSIDE?

As you can see, Makeup Revolution have been generous with just about everything in this palette, there’s 18 shades: 10 shimmers and 8 mattes, as well as a generously sized mirror. Can we also appreciate that each shade is individually named INSIDE the palette, with no flimsy plastic sheet in sight! It makes life so much easier when writing reviews and recommending shades to people. In terms of the colour scheme, is anyone else getting some strong ABH Subculture vibes? I just love the rusty, retro look, I feel like it’s almost mid-century modern with the occasional pop of bright colour too – right up my street!

1ST ROW SWATCHES

PeakChampagne shimmer – This is perhaps the shade that I use the most. It is the PERFECT inner corner highlight and it also looks stunning under the brows too. It’s really pigmented and looks even brighter when applied wet.

WarriorGrey shimmer with khaki undertones – This is such an unusual shade, I can’t quite work out whether or not its more grey or more green. However, the combination is so unique! I love using this on the outer corners, paired with some other brighter silver shades. Again, it’s really pigmented and feels very smooth and buttery.

PerfectMatte light beige – I love using this as a transition shade along with some other neutral or earthy toned shadows. It’s great for creating the base for smokey a smokey eye look too. It’s pigmented and applies really well.

ParallelLilac shimmer – This shade really caught my eye amongst the other shadows in the palette. It’s so bright and sparkly! I love using this with some pinks and burgundy shadows – it works really well with some shades from the Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette (I’ve reviewed that here).

FlawlessMedium warm-toned matte brown – It swatched ever so slightly patchy and on the eye it doesn’t look as dark as it does in the pan, however, it’s easy to build up if necessary.

MineralGold/grey shimmer – This is another shade that is just so unique. It’s a combination of gold and grey but I also think there’s a tiny bit of green in there too. It’s buttery and soft, just like the other shimmers in the palette.

2ND ROW SWATCHES

PrimeMatte light beige – This shade is very similar to “Perfect” in the first row. I can’t help but feel like it could have featured a totally different shade instead, so that we wouldn’t have an almost duplicate shade. However, it’s equally as buildable, pigmented, smooth and buttery to apply.

Fighter Deep matte turquoise – I was excited for this shade until I swatched it. The colour payoff is disappointing, it’s patchy and it also stains too. I doubt I will be using this shade that much, unless it’s along the lower lash line.

Advantage – – I’m still not over how pigmented this shade is. I use this all the time, as I love creating warm-toned looks. It’s just one of those shades that makes you say “wow” every single time you use it. It’s so silky smooth and buttery too.

GreatestBlue/green shimmer – It looks more green in the pan than it does on the eye however, I like this shade a lot. I don’t usually go for blues but this is just so pretty. Its pigmentation is very impressive, it’s another one of those buttery smooth shimmers that Makeup Revolution have absolutely smashed.

OutstandingSilver shimmer – Ironically, the name isn’t fitting for this shade. I find that it has quite a chalky/powdery consistency which can make it quite hard to apply and sometimes it can look patchy. It’s stunning when it’s on, it’s just I wish it was easier to get it on my lid! Other than that, I really like this shade, I don’t own anything quite like it either. It’s quite fun to pop in the inner corners too.

OnyxMatte black – This is the one shade that I am the most disappointed with in the palette. The colour payoff just isn’t there and it’s very patchy. I’ve found some use for it by building it up to create a smokey look but it takes a bit of time to do that. If it was more pigmented, it would be a great shade. It’s always useful to have a matte black shade in a palette but only if they’re done right.

3RD ROW SWATCHES

ChoiceRose/copper shimmer – I absolutely love this shade. It’s stunning! It’s pigmented, easy to apply and looks even better when applied wet. I love applying it with “Peak” for a strawberries ands cream style look – I literally can’t stop using it. I also like using it with my Urban Decay Naked Cherry palette as it goes really well with some of the matte pinks.

Own Plum purple/red – This shade is super pretty. It can be a bit chalky in consistency but once applied it can blend out beautifully. It looks stunning paired with “Choice”. I’ve always liked shades like this, I think they bring out the green in my eyes more than other colours do.

EnergyDark gold shimmer – This is your classic gold, that you probably already own, but will always need more of. I use shades like this all the time, it goes with so many other colours and always makes a boring look turn into something glam and sparkly. Again, this is a really pigmented shade, it’s buttery and smooth and also when applied wet, stands out even more.

CapitalMatte orange/terracotta brown – I use these terracotta type shades all the time. They’re my go to for putting in the crease so I know I’ll get plenty of use out of “Capital” all year round. It also works beautifully with some of the shimmers shades in the palette like; “Energy” and “Advantage”. It’s very smooth and easy to blend out too.

MaximumDeep matte navy – I’ve found I has a lot of build-up in the pan and it can look quite patchy on so it needs a few applications to make I opaque. I’m not too sure if I will use this shade all that much. If it was more pigmented, I’d be using it a lot more.

UnmatchedBrown shimmer with red/pink shift – I never usually use brown shimmers, I’m more of a champagne or gold kind of girl but “Unmatched” has actually been a shade that I’m using a lot. I like using it in my outer corners and along the lower lash line. It’s creamy and buttery and looks beautiful on its own as well as when applied wet.

WHAT DO I THINK?

For ยฃ10, I think we’re onto a bargain here folks. You can often get Makeup Revolution products on offer at Superdrug too – not forgetting the points system or the student discount! If you’re into rusty tones and bold shimmers, this is a palette that will fit very well in your makeup collection. I have to say that the formula of the shimmer shades is incredible. Every single shimmer is buttery, creamy and pigmented! They easily give high-end brands a run for their money. I love the colour scheme, it’s quirky and different from your usual gold/brown/neutrals palettes. I like that there’s something for everyone: those that want to play it safe and those that want to be bold and try something new. The packaging is lovely too, it feels much higher quality than the usual plastic that you find in the drugstore. Thanks to the generously sized mirror, it’s super easy to travel with and although sturdy, the palette feels lightweight and easy to carry around.

The one thing that I’m not so impressed with is the formula of the matte shades. It seems to be quite hit and miss, some are perfect and some are chalky and patchy. I’m not sure why that’s the case but then again, this is a drugstore brand and the palette itself is fairly cheap so I can’t expect unbelievable results every time. That being said, only a few of the matte shades are like that, the rest are fine, plus those that are patchy or chalky, can still be worn but it takes patience to build them up and apply them.

PIXI: REFLEX LIGHT PALETTE & BRUSHES REVIEW*

*This post contains gifted products and affiliate links

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! I’m not sure who I think I am all of a sudden, but I’ve actually been going out (as in out out) and I’ve actually been enjoying it – it’s almost like I’m a young person at university or something. However, the absolute highlight of my week was receiving a beautiful (and very generous) PR package from Pixi, which included two of their new Eye Reflections Palettes and a set of eyeshadow brushes. I thought you might be keen to see a review as everyone seems to be Pixi crazy right now, including me! They have quickly become one of my favourite brands, especially when it comes to skincare, so you can imagine my excitement when they sent me some makeup to play around with…

First up we have the Reflex Light eyeshadow palette, featuring 12 gorgeous shimmer shades. It retails at ยฃ24.I have to admit, although I tend to prefer a palette that includes both mattes and shimmers, these are some of the best shimmers that I’ve ever come across – ever. I’m actually really glad that we get so many in one palette. I also love warm tones! The only other warm toned palette that I own is the Naked Heat by Urban Decay, which I absolutely love. I feel like some of these shimmers would go so well with the mattes from the Heat palette too! That being said, if you aren’t too keen on the idea of using multiple palettes at once, or you aren’t a huge fan of warm-tones and shimmers in general – this palette will not be the one for you. Pixi do have a few other palettes in the range that might take your fancy though, click here to have a browse. However, if you’re already into this – just wait until you see the swatches…

When I say that these are the best shimmers that I’ve used, I mean it. The texture is beautifully softy and buttery. In terms of pigmentation, as you can see Pixi aren’t playing around with these eyeshadows. They’re almost like foils in how they feel and apply – when applied wet I reckon they will be out if this world! Every single shade is amazing, there isn’t a single on that I’m disappointed with. I can also see myself using all of them too – whether I’m doing a quick one-swipe sparkle or whether I’m going full glam for a night out. I cannot recommend this enough if you want some pigmented warm tones and shimmers in your makeup collection, especially given that the palette only costs ยฃ24!

Pixi also sent across three of their eyeshadow brushes; E01, E02 and E03! Not only do the brushes look nice but they feel nice too. They all feel so soft and they don’t malt which is always bonus. I’ve been using the fluffy brush almost every day as it’s literally perfect for blending out eyeshadow flawlessly. The tapered brush is great for packing shades into the inner and outer corners if you’re trying to layer and build a more intense look. I’ve also been using the flat brush to apply shimmer shades and glitters as it lets me be so precise.Unfortunately they don’t seem to be available online however I can almost guarantee that their other brushes are just as good! I will definitely be investing in some of them now.

I absolutely love the eyeshadow palette. It’s pigmented, wearable and affordable, what more could I need? What do you think of Pixi’s eyeshadows? Have you tried any of their makeup? Let me know in the comments! Don’t forget to give me a follow on my socials – come and say hey!

BIRCHBOX FEBRUARY 2019: LET LOVE GROW โ€“ REVIEW

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well and that you had a lovely Valentine’s Day, no natter who you spent it with or what you did! I explored a lovely little town called Matlock with dad yesterday. We sat and watched the world go by whilst sharing a huge slab of white chocolate and raspberry cake. Anyway, it’s time for another Birchbox review and I’m really excited for this one! This month, we received some amazing products and I can’t wait to tell you about them! Before I begin, I’ve included some information about what Birchbox actually is, how much is costs and all that jazz below!

I use some of the boxes to store makeup in too as they’re too pretty to throw away! If you want to try Birchbox for yourself, click here and use my referral link to get ยฃ5 off your first box!

This monthโ€™s box is all about celebrating love, which makes sense because after all, it’s February and that means Valentine’s Day is upon us once again! Birchbox have collaborated with the gifting gods from notonthehighstreet to remind us all about acts of thoughtfulness and kindness. I think it’s a lovely idea, especially as lots of us are feeling a bit down in the dumps after the January blues and could definitely do with a pick-me-up. Let’s see what’s included shall we? RRPs correspond to full-size items at birchbox.co.uk/shop.

LOC – Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Eclipse – RRP ยฃ8 (Full Size & Birchbox Exclusive)

If you’ve read my recent post about my latest makeup obsession, then you’ll know how much I love liquid eyeshadows. Powder formulas can get a bit boring so it’s nice to just sweep some shimmer onto my lid and be able to leave the house within five minutes – no blending necessary. It’s described to add a “subtle hint of colour” but I certainly wouldn’t call it subtle…as you can see from the swatch, she is PIGMENTED. I was expecting a sheer formula, perhaps something that needs building but this is on another level. I’m not complaining though, it just may disappoint those of you that were hoping for something more natural looking. It’s really smooth and buttery, making is easy to apply and shift around the lid until it looks exactly how I want it to. It dries pretty quickly and when it does, it’s going nowhere fast! Ten hours after application, it still hadn’t budged and it only came off with makeup remover.

Anatomicals – Shower Gel – RRP ยฃ4 (Full Size & Birchbox Exclusive)

This smells absolutely amazing! I already have a lot of love for Anatomicals. I’m a huge fan of their packaging too, I love how vibrant and eye-catching it all is, plus they know how to make puns like it’s nobody’s business. It’s like they’re a conveyor belt of beauty related humour and I love it! It makes a change from the boring packaging we see everywhere else, right?

Coco & Eve – Like A Virgin Super Nourishing Coconut & Fig Hair Masque – RPP ยฃ9 (Full Size)

I spend so much time thinking about skincare and makeup that I forget to about my hair! Given that I love to fry it with straighteners on a regular basis and I’m guilty of forgetting heat protectant on a few occasions, I should probably change this! When I’m straightening my hair, I’m usually in a rush to get out of the house so I don’t have time to faff about with sprays and creams. The idea of a hair mask sounds so appealing – you can even be doing something else whilst it’s on. For example, when you have those heavy duty baths/showers, where you have to wash your hair, shave and exfoliate (if you know, you know), you could apply this mask, leave it for 5-10 minutes whilst you’re faffing around with everything else! Meanwhile, the mask is repairing damage, improving texture and shine, deeply hydrating AND sealing split ends – one heck of a multi-tasker!

Luxie – 205 Tapered Blending Dreamcatcher – RRP ยฃ11 (Full Size)

Since I started wearing makeup, I’ve learnt that the key to flawless eyeshadow is blending. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the right brushes for this though and the Luxie Tapered Blending brush is perfect for the job! It’s so soft and fluffy, great for creating seamless eyeshadow looks. It’s also vegan, cruelty-free and hypoallergenic. With brushes like this, it barely takes any effort to get the look you want.

Joliderm – Nose Patch – RRP ยฃ13.90 (Birchbox Exclusive)

Patches are some of my favourite skincare must-haves! I always have some in to target blocked pores, blackheads and impurities. Apparently these strips only take 10-15 minutes and then you’re able to “wave goodbye” to all the bad stuff immediately. However, I tried this patch last night and I just didn’t notice any difference, at all. I also noticed how expensive they were too. Had it been a great product, I might have repurchased them but I definitely won’t be. I’ve found cheaper alternative that are much more effective!

I’m really impressed with this month’s box. We received four full size products when typically it’s only one or two. There was such a variety, we had makeup, skincare, haircare and an beauty tool too! Although I was disappointed by one of the products, I’m okay with that. When you subscribe to something like Birchbox, you have to be prepared to receive something you might not like at some point and I guess that’s what happened here! I know that I will use everything else though, especially the makeup and the blending brush. Altogether, the products inside the February box are worth roughly ยฃ45, which is less than usual but still good value. The subscription itself costs only ยฃ12.95 per month! Are you subscribed to Birchbox or any other beaut boxes? Let me know in the comments. Check out last month’s Birchbox review!

GLISTEN UP! MAKEUP REVOLUTION – EYE GLISTEN: FOIL & GLITTER LIQUID EYESHADOWS

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! The Gods from Revolution have blessed us once again with some amazing new products. This time, we’re delving into the wonderful world of liquid eyeshadows with their latest release, the Eye Glisten range. I pretty much turn into Gollum when anything glittery comes my way so there was absolutely no chance that I was going to be able to resist these. Grab a cuppa and apologise in advance to your bank account – especially if, like me, you love anything pretty and shiny. Like always, I’ve included links, photos and swatches!

All links in this post are affiliate links.

The Eye Glisten range includes five, dual-ended liquid and foil eyeshadows. One end features a metallic shimmer and the other a glitter gel (I know, I’m drooling too) and they retail at ยฃ6 each. The shadows can be found on Beauty Bay, Revolution’s website or in Superdrug stores now!

Makeup Revolution Eye Glisten: Foil & Liquid Eyeshadows Review, Swatches & Photos

The tubes are travel-friendly in size, each containing 2.2ml of product. The flocked wands allow for smooth and easy application – no mess and no faffing around with brushes and tools. I’m all for using glitter but I hate having to use a small army of other products to help it stay put. With these, you get two products in one tube and two applicators – space-saving and practical! Does anyone else overpack when it comes to makeup and going on holiday? I’m absolutely awful for it! “Oh but I might end up needing that neon pink shade” “I simply have to bring that palette because it has a gold in it” and before I know it, my whole makeup collection is in my suitcase. Now, I reckon I could get away with packing a few of these instead!

Look how neat and tidy it is! The wands make it a quick, easy and mess-free experience!.The last thing I want is my hands, face and dressing table looking like something that’s supposed to be hanging above a dance floor. It makes the whole process much more appealing when you don’t have to worry about cleaning up the aftermath. It also means that we can be precise when applying the product. The trouble with loose glitter is that within a few minutes, I’ve either put too much on or it’s gone down my bra. It will be so much easier to control with a wand (if only it were the kind from Diagon Alley), so I can layer the product it gradually and build it up at my own pace!

Here we have the glitters and nope I can’t handle it either. They are gorgeous! I think the colour selection is fantastic, there’s a bit of everything and I think the shades will work on everyone. They can be layered with other eyeshadows or applied along the lash line to create the perfect glitter liner! Imagine what could be created with these during the festival period! The texture is a little bit difficult to manoeuvre – imagine glitter glue but a tiny bit more stubborn and clumpy. They may take a bit of work to get them how you’d like them to look but it’s totally worth it!

Now onto my favourite part. Can we just take a minute to appreciate these beauties? Look how stunning they are! I absolutely love some shimmer on the lid but there aren’t many (good) liquid eyeshadows that don’t require a small loan to purchase. I think my prayers have been answered with these twinkling tubes and finally, I can blink and blind the world as often as I like. The texture of all of the shimmer shadows is smooth and velvety and they dry after a minute or so.

Desired – Glitter (Top) & Shimmer (Bottom)

DesiredRed Copper Glitter & Red Copper Shimmer – I didn’t expect the glitter to be this rich in colour at all. It’s so bright and vibrant, it’ll look stunning on any skin tone. The liquid shadow is mind-glowingly pigmented, I still haven’t recovered to be honest. I think this will look beautiful when used with the Naked Heat palette, don’t you think? It would’ve been the perfect festive combination too! A dab of these two along with a forest green and BAM you’ve got Lapland on your lids.

Adored by YouIridescent Pink Glitter & Frosted Rose Gold Pink Shimmer – Calling all baby pink fans, glisten up, your time to shine has come. The glitter is a lot less chunky than Desired, so it took a little less work to move it around. I tried to capture half and half – what it looks like in the light and what it looks like normally. You can see how beautifully it reflects the light – I’m getting some strong unicorn vibes people. The shimmer is stunning. It’s pigmented, buttery and easy to blend. I can’t wait to use this with some pink shadows! I’m thinking Modern Renaissance

Dreamland – Glitter (Top) & Shimmer (Bottom)

DreamlandYellow Gold Glitter & Deep Gold ShimmerWOW. I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I swatched this. What in the name of glistening goddesses did we do to deserve such a product? I’m totally obsessed with Dreamland. The glitter is gorgeous and it looks stunning along the lash line and in the inner corners of the lid. Again, it reflects the light beautifully and it will make you feel like a queen. The shimmer is something else. It’s more pigmented than some of the palettes I’ve paid ยฃ45 for, which hurts a little to admit but credit where credits due! 11/10! It came in the post yesterday morning and I’ve already been stopped and asked about it three times. It’s one of those products.

It’s FateCool Gold Glitter & Champagne Gold Shimmer – I’m so glad that they included a cooler gold in the collection. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for a bright yellow gold on my lids, so It’s Fate makes for the perfect alternative. The Glitter is a bit stubborn to shift, which is a shame as it’s such a beautiful colour. The shimmer is perfect, I cannot wait to wear it with some neutral mattes as an every day look!

Yours Truly

Yours Truly – Glitter (Top) & Shimmer (Bottom)

Yours Truly Muted Pink Glitter and Rose Gold Shimmer – I love anything pink and shimmer but rose gold always steals the show. For those of us that couldn’t rob a bank in time to buy the Huda Nude palette, look no further – we can get our hands on a pink glitter and shimmer for ยฃ6 a pop! I can see myself using this a lot during Spring, as I seem to be drawn towards all things floral and delicate at that time of year. The glitter was less chunky than some of the others and I was able to get it to a semi-opaque layer on my lid without it looking really patchy. The shimmer is another masterpiece and I have nothing to complain about here! Smooth, pigmented and pretty – what more could I want?

Makeup Revolution Eye Glisten: Foil & Liquid Eyeshadows Review, Swatches & Photos

So, what’s the verdict?

In terms of what I didn’t like, there’s barely anything to say. The only thing I think could be improved, is the texture of the glitter. It’s literally like glitter glue and like I mentioned before, it can be quite stubborn to move around. It can also clump quite easily which makes it difficult to apply smoothly. If it were slightly more fluid in formula but still had the same wow-factor to it, I think it would be perfect. Something similar to the Collection Glam Crystals Liquid Eyeshadows?

Although there’s room for the tiniest of improvements, I think it’s obvious that I’m a big fan of these products. The shimmers are ridiculously good, there’s nothing to complain about. Let’s just take a minute to remember that Revolution are a drugstore brand – not a high-end one and yet they’re releasing products that are easily on par with the likes of Stila. These shadows are priced at ยฃ6 each and the quality is that of a product twice the price. It does make me wonder how some brands get away with slapping such hefty price tags onto products are are only bit better than these and in some cases don’t even come close. The shadows can be worn day-to-night at the flip of a tube and application is made really easy with the flexible, flocked wands – anyone could do it! The shade range is amazing but I hope we get some other options! I already need more and I’ve only had them for a day! I absolutely recommend these, whether you’re buying for a pal or for yourself, these are definitely worth purchasing.

Buy the shadows here!

JANUARY 2019 FAVOURITES

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! I’ve been settling back into university for my second term and let me tell you, it’s not much fun preparing to graduate. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel but I have a lot of things to do to get there! I’m working on my dissertation whilst also running my own study – is this what adult studenting feels like? If so, I think I’ll go back to first year if you don’t mind. I’m back and blogging though and that means I have a new monthly favourites for you! Can you believe it’s already time for this? January has already been and gone and of course, that means I have some new things to share with you.

*Some of the links in this post are affiliate links

Lโ€™Orรฉal Paris Pure Clay Blue Algae Blemish Rescue Face Mask

This. Mask. Is. Amazing. I don’t know what I used to do without it to be honest. Every time I have a spot attempting to get it’s own postcode, I apply a layer of this and within a day or so it’s completely gone! It smells amazing, it’s not too expensive and it’s effective – the perfect combination, right? I’ve written a post called 5 Face Masks That You Need in Your Life, so be sure to give it a read!

Makeup Revolution – Eye Glisten Foil & Shimmer Liquid Eyeshadows

Even though it’s only January, this is already one of my favourite makeup releases of 2019. These are the Eye Glisten – Foil & Shimmer Liquid Eyeshadows from Makeup Revolution! They’re just so pretty and sparkly, I can’t stop using them. I really hope we get some more shades at some point because I need more immediately, if not sooner. I’ve actually written a review of all five shades so be sure to check that out if these make you feel all weird and tingly too.

Peppermint Tea

I grew up drinking normal tea, hot chocolate and Earl Grey and that is IT. Like the true brit that I am I never dreamed of venturing beyond the realms of the average steamy beverage until I discovered peppermint tea. If someone had mentioned it to me a few months back, I would’ve said “I’ll pass thanks” but now, I can’t stop drinking it. It’s probably the healthiest addiction that I have, in comparison to The Sims and chicken nuggets. It’s just so refreshing and it’s perfect for drinking after dinner. It’s also my go-to when I have a stomach ache or if I’m feeling anxious! The fact that it only costs 75p for 40 bags at Aldi, makes it even more tempting.

Afterspa – Facial Scrubber

This is the ultimate skincare assistant. I always make sure I take my makeup off before I go to sleep but sometimes I just cannot be bothered to do it properly. You know when you’re so tired you can hardly keep your eyes open? That’s where this comes in handy because it does the work for you! It removes dead skin cells, dirt and impurities which is exactly what I need whilst my skin is having its annual January crisis. I actually received it in my January Birchbox and you can read my review of it here.

Thermal Water Bottle

I noticed that the rest of the world has slowly becoming obsessed with these “Chilly’s” bottles and the only thing stopping me from joining them was the hefty price tag. As much as I’d like to carry my tea out and about with me, there’s no way I’m paying ยฃ30 to do so. I started looking around to find a cheaper alternative and voila! That’s where the love of my life, T.K. Maxx saved the day. I was on my way to the till after my weekly trip to the store (yep I know, I’m absolutely wild) when I saw an entire shelf of these bottles and they only cost ยฃ7.99! Due to my love of animal prints, I went for a snakeskin design and I practically skipped home to start using it. Since then, I’ve been using this bottle almost every day, to take hot drinks to university with me. Typically, I’ll have peppermint tea or lemon and ginger but since my boyfriend has kindly given me his cold, I’ve been taking Lemsip in recently. It’s the perfect cold weather companion! In summer, it’ll be great for keeping drinks cold too.

I Heart Revolution – Bronze & Shimmer

Ladies and gents, say hello to my little friend, the Bronze and Shimmer duo from Makeup Revolution. I have quite the collection of highlighters and bronzers ranging from Benefit to Bobbi Brown and Urban Decay to Too Faced and yet this still comes first, every time. To make it even better, it only costs ยฃ6! I’ve written an entire post all about it here, so check it out if you’re interested! This monthly favourites is going to seem like one big plug of my own content but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, sorry not sorry!

NETFLIX – SEX EDUCATION

This series is so good! I finished it in two days because I just couldn’t stop watching! It follows a teenage boy with a mother that is a sex therapist (awkward) whilst we attempts to start a sex clinic at his high school. It’s quirky, hilarious and different from most of the other gloomy serial killer documentaries that I spend most of my time watching. There’s talk of a second series too! I love how they’ve made it timeless, with a mixup of the retro and the modern, whilst also featuring elements of British and American culture. It sparked debate on social media, as nobody could work out when or where it was set!

There we have it, my January favourites! What have you been loving over the last few weeks? Let me know in the comments and be sure to check out my social media – I’ve linked it all below!

PIXI: GLOW TONIC – REVIEW*

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! It’s been a busy few days for me. Unfortunately I’m now back at university for my second term. I know that things are about to get really tough academically, so I’m just taking it one day at a time for now. In anticipation of a stress induced skin crisis, a package from Pixi couldn’t have arrived at a more appropriate time. Also, I still haven’t recovered from the fact that it’s personalised – one of the many ways that Pixi go above and beyond!

*This post contains gifted products and affiliate links

I’d actually surprised if you didn’t recognise this pretty little bottle of goodness. The Pixi Glow Tonic has won a multitude of awards and continues to be a cult favourite within the beauty community, despite the vast amount of dupes being churned out (ahem, Aldi). However, I know that some people still remain unsure, wondering “is it worth the money?” “is it worth the hype?”. I too was asking all of those questions until I put it to the test and I’m finally ready to give you my thoughts!

What is it?

This is actually a bottle of the Supersize Glow Tonic, which retails at ยฃ28 and contains a whopping 500ml. There are smaller bottles available too; 100ml which costs ยฃ10 and 250ml which costs ยฃ18.

Firstly, the Pixi Glow Tonic is alcohol and cruelty free. It uses the power of Glycolic Acid to exfoliate, removing dead skin and impurities. The beauty community seems to be buzzing with all things acid at the moment (the legal kind), with tonics and cleansing pads being released like there’s no tomorrow. One of the many reasons that Glycolic Acid is so appealing, is that it helps keep skin clear, giving it a healthy glow. The tonic also features Aloe Vera which helps to soothe and hydrate the skin along with energising Ginseng which softens the skin and improves circulation. This amazing combination of ingredients work together to encourage cell renewal, for a “brighter, glowing complexion”. Say goodbye to dullness and large pores. It’s also suitable for all skin types!

How do you use it?

Pixi say that the Glow Tonic can be used both in the morning and at night or when needed. First, cleanse your skin. Then soak a cotton pad in tonic, sweep it across the face and neck – you don’t want this in your eyes so avoid that area! Follow with a serum or a moisturiser, however I recommend using something high in SPF to protect my skin after using any acid.

Is it worth the hype?

I have to say that without a doubt, the Pixi Glow Tonic is worth the hype. Almost immediately after using it, I noticed a difference. My skin looks brighter, the appearance of my pores has been minimised and I’m having less breakouts. I absolutely love using this in my skincare routine, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. I use it daily and I haven’t experienced any irritation whatsoever. I was initially worried it might make me more oily but it hasn’t. It doesn’t surprise me that it’s a bestseller – it’s amazing.

Have you tried the Pixi Glow Tonic? What did you think? Let me know in the comments! Iโ€™ve put links to all of my social media down below and Iโ€™d love it if you would come and say hi!

JUVIA’S PLACE ‘THE ZULU’ PALETTE – REVIEW, SWATCHES AND PHOTOS

Hey you,

I’m back with another review and this time I’m going to be talking about a Juvia’s Place palette. I’ve been wanting to add some colour to my makeup collection for a while, instead of playing it safe with neutrals and bronze/gold shades (very guilty). This is definitely new territory for me but when I think of colourful makeup, I think of this brand so I think it’s worth starting here! I’ve never owned or used any of their products before but I’ve only heard and seen incredible things so I thought I would share my thoughts with you! Today’s review is about the infamous Zulu palette! I noticed this palette a while ago and all I can say is that the pigmentation blew my mind and that was only through watching someone else swatch the shades, so I simply had to get it and try it for myself!

PRICE

So let’s get straight in there with the facts. How much is it? The Zulu Palette retails at ยฃ20 but sometimes it’s on sale and if you have student discount, you can get an even better deal on in some circumstances. I’ve noticed that all of their products are reasonably priced and I like that you can have access to great quality makeup, without having to spend a fortune on it. Where can you buy it? You can get hold of the Zulu palette on the Juvia’s website itself or through BeautyBay.

PACKAGING

I know that in most cases, it’s what’s inside that matters, but packaging is often the first thing that we see. It makes a big difference as to whether or not I end up making the final purchase – especially if I’m buying something online. If there’s one thing that Juvia’s Place know how to do, it’s packaging. The use of bold and vibrant colours is stunning. I love the beautiful Egyptian Goddess on the front, the level of detail in the illustration is amazing. The background colour is a pretty, pastel pink shade with a holographic tint to it. It’s clear that a lot of time went into designing this packaging and I really like that. It makes them stand out from other brands. We see so much of the same thing being churned out by brands over and over again, it’s nice to mix it up!

WHAT’S INSIDE?

Okay bright colour fanatics, take a deep breath and feast your eyes on these. There’s 9 eyeshadows included: 6 mattes and 3 metallic shades. I guess, some would argue that the palette is fairly small in terms of how many shades you get, right? In this case, I think less is more. First of all, let’s address the size of the pans. They are huge – I don’t think I have a palette with pans this big in my whole collection. Already, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck.

Secondly, as you’ll see below, the quality is amazing. I’m sick of investing in expensive palettes, only to discover some of the shades are high quality. This is one of the first palettes that I’ve purchased, where every single shade is amazing. There isn’t one that’s worse than the others. They’re all on the same level in my opinion and that’s rare! I’d rather have less product at a higher quality than splash out on something where I barely get my money’s worth. That being said, I do have a tiny suggestion for improvement – I would love the shadows to be labelled! It’s difficult when writing a review and when recommending shades to people when nothing has a name.

JUVIA'S PLACE 'THE ZULU' PALETTE - REVIEW, SWATCHES AND PHOTOS

1ST ROW SWATCHES

Matte Orange – I don’t think I’ve ever used an orange eyeshadow quite like this one. It’s extremely pigmented and yet the formula is buttery and soft. The colour payoff is insane and yet there’s no kickback or fall out. How have they managed this? It’s a great shade for darkening the crease when creating a colourful warm-toned look.

Matte Yellow – The formula is soft and buttery and it’s incredibly pigmented. It can blend out to be slightly less bold as it appears in the pan but it’s buildable and you could certainly get a really intense pop of colour.

Matte Brown – I thought this shade was going to be quite dark but I think that’s just how it looks in the palette and in the pan. Perhaps it’s in contrast to all of the brighter shades adjacent to it? Either way, it’s not a disappointment, it’s still a beautiful shade. It’s like the perfect, warm-medium brown. I use this almost every day, in my outer corners to create a smokey eye look and there’s no going back now. This is my go-to brown.

JUVIA'S PLACE 'THE ZULU' PALETTE - REVIEW, SWATCHES AND PHOTOS

2ND ROW SWATCHES

Matte Turquoise – Turquoise has always been my favourite colour so of course, I was practically drooling when I swatched this shade. It felt slightly powdery to the touch but it appleid exactly like the others: pigmented and without fallout or kickback. It blends out to be slightly less intense as it would appear in the palette, but it’s easy to build. I actually prefer the opportunity to build a shade to my desired level of intensity.

Metallic Green – This is where I feel like I enter a whole new dimension. This shade is absolutely stunning. If you were to say, Nina, I know a bright green metallic eyeshadow that you’ll love, I would probably laugh in your face. I’m so surprised at how much I love this shade. It’s so buttery and creamy and it blends like a dream.

Metallic Aqua – Another incredible shade. I can see myself absolutely rinsing this in summer. It’s just so pretty! I think it’s my favourite colour in the palette.

JUVIA'S PLACE 'THE ZULU' PALETTE - REVIEW, SWATCHES AND PHOTOS

3RD ROW SWATCHES

Metallic Pink – I’m still not quite over this. I think it’s of my all time favourite eyeshadows – ever. I’m obsessed with the way that the colour shifts between a peachy pink and a rusty gold. I’m so glad that they chose to add a duo-chrome to the mix because it continues to make this palette more unique! As you can see, it’s pigmented, it looks stunning and it is pink, what’s not to love?

Matte Pink – The definition of “hot pink”. They’ve absolutely aced the formula too. It’s buttery and blends out really well, despite how pigmented it is! I can see myself using this shade a lot during Spring, as I tend to go for use lots more pinks and purples. It’s really pigmented and bold but it still blends really smoothly. Another formula I’m very impressed with.

Matte Purple – I cannot wait to be creative with this one. It’s so bold and vibrant, I was expecting it to be difficult to blend but of course, in true Juvia’s Place style, it’s perfect.

JUVIA'S PLACE 'THE ZULU' PALETTE - REVIEW, SWATCHES AND PHOTOS

WHAT DO I THINK?

I can’t believe that this palette only retails at ยฃ20. You can also get it on sale AND use a student discount to grab it at an even better price – an absolute steal if you ask me. If you’re into colour and pigmentation that is out of this world, this is a palette you absolutely cannot miss out on. There isn’t a bad shade in there, which is a rare find. I’m also extremely impressed with the formulas, there’s no fallout and they all blend like a dream. Some of the most expensive brands out there are still producing chalky, patchy and rubbish eyeshadows, but with the Zulu Palette there isn’t a bad swatch in sight. I like that the mattes aren’t as intense as they look because it gives me a chance to build them up to the intensity level that I want!

If I were to suggest any improvements, firstly, I wish the shadows were labelled. It makes reviewing so much easier but it also means I can refer to individual shades when I post pictures of looks or when I recommend them to friends. Secondly, I’d say that there could be at least one more metallic in there – I’m just being greedy but that formula is to die for and I need more. BIRCHBOX JANUARY 2019: SHAKE YOUR POM POMS – REVIEW

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! It’s hard to believe that we’re already well into the first month of 2019 but somehow, here we are and of course that means another Birchbox review is coming your way! Even though I’ve been subscribed to Birchbox for a long time, I still feel excited when one of their lovely little boxes arrives at my door every month. Before I dive in, I’ve included some information about what Birchbox actually is, how much it costs and other important info below but if youโ€™re just here for the review, keep scrolling! RRPs correspond to full-size items at birchbox.co.uk/shop.

Want to try Birchbox for yourself? Click here and use my referral link to get ยฃ5 off your first box!

Birchbox is a UK beauty subscription service that sends beauty boxes to their subscribers containing 5 goodies every month. You donโ€™t have to worry about lifelong commitments or any contracts, you can cancel anytime with a monthly subscription โ€“ no fuss whatsoever! The monthly subscription costs only ยฃ10 per month plus ยฃ2.95 P&P! You can edit your beauty profile on their site in order to ensure you get sent products that are suitable for your skin/hair type and personal preferences. Birchbox is so great for discovering new brands and products. I have been subscribed to Birchbox for a long time now and I look forward to receiving their boxes every month. Iโ€™ve gone on to buy lots of the things Iโ€™ve received because I have loved them so much. Every box you receive is beautifully packaged, some months are designed and inspired by artists and companies. I use some of the older boxes to store makeup in too as the designs are too pretty to throw away!

This monthโ€™s Birchbox is focused on beating the January Blues by making each day more vibrant – even if it’s dark and gloomy outside! As usual, the packaging is gorgeous. I love how bright and colourful it is, definitely one to keep on show! I’ll probably store some of my makeup in it as it’s far too pretty to get rid of. Is there anyone out there that actually throws these boxes away?

CLฤ’ Cosmetics – Essence Moonlighter Cushion in Apricot Tinge – RRP ยฃ22 (Full Size)

In all honesty, at first glance, I wasn’t too sure about this. I nearly always use a powder highlighter as I just seem to get on better with a a dry formula. However, I wanted to give this product a shot so I kept an open mind whilst doing swatches and it turns out that I bloody loved it! The Moonlighter Cushion is enriched with luminescent pearl powder to add a gorgeous gleam to your skin. It’s sponge-like texture allows for a precise amount of product to be picked up and applied. A little bit goes a long way! It has a really refreshing and cooling sensation on the skin, something that makes it stand out from the other highlighters in my collection! I expected it to be darker in colour but it’s actually a pearly white shade when swatched! It’s so easy to apply and because it’s liquid-based it doesn’t appear cakey or cling to any dry patches. It’s also full-size and I understand that Birchbox can’t always do this, but sometimes it’s really nice to have the whole thing rather than a tiny sample – especially if it’s a product that I really like!

Dr. Botanicals – Cleansing Bar in Pomegranate – RRP ยฃ5.90 (Full Size)

If you’ve read my latest post, 5 face masks that you need in your life, you’ll know just how much I love the Dr. Botanicals Pomegranate range. I was so excited to find this cleansing bar in my January Birchbox! It promises to restore our skin’s natural glow and I don’t know about you, but mine seems to have been left in 2018, so I would quite like it back. Although it acts as an exfoliator, it’s not rough whatsoever. In fact, it lathers beautifully for a gentle and soothing cleanse, leaving the skin radiant and glowing. Despite how hard it has to work, it also manages to smell amazing too. Also, I was expecting it to cost a small fortune but ยฃ5.90 seems too good to be true!

Philip Kingsley – Flaky/Itchy Scalp Shampoo – RRP ยฃ24

I’d say my hair is more on the damaged/lifeless side of things, rather than flaky or itchy so I was unsure of how this would help me until I read the description. Apparently you don’t need to have those issues to benefit from using this product! This shampoo was created to help maintain a healthy scalp but also to encourage a good haircare routine. It gently cleanses to soothe irritation and clear product build-up, leaving your hair silky, soft and shiny. The 3 S’s that you need in your life (as opposed, to straggly, slimy and split ends)

Afterspa – Facial Micro Scrubber – RRP ยฃ7 (Full Size)

I already use their makeup removing cloths and my god they’re good so my expectations for this scrubber were pretty high. The dual-sided scrubber can be used every day for exfoliation on the face and neck. It wipes away any dead cells, dirt, oil and impurities, leaving skin feeling cleaner and healthier. You can use it alongside your favourite cleanser too – so it can easily fit into your skincare routine.

Lord & Berry – Line/Shade in Purple – RRP ยฃ14

Now, I’m sure the perfectionists amongst you will have picked up on something wrong, just as I did. The top of the pencil seems to have been sliced off in transit but I couldn’t find it anywhere so who knows! I actually love using coloured pencils along my waterline, they quickly make an everyday makeup look a bit less boring! This liner is waterproof, so it stays put all day without budging. I like that it’s an actual pencil too as there’s nothing worse than those stingy ones that you can’t twist up or sharpen. I can’t wait to get creative with this!

Birchbox – Pom Pom Hair Ties

This month we were given a little something extra in the form of two cute little Pom pom hairbands! Like socks, hair ties seem to disappear without a trace so I always like to top up my supply! I always go for the boring pack of brown ones so for once, I will have something colourful to use!

As usual, we received some amazing bits and bobs. This month had a real variety! We had skincare, makeup and makeup and even three full-size products too! I’m sure I will get lots of use out of everything, particularly the skincare as my face has decided to hate me right now. Altogether, the products inside the January box, are worth roughly ยฃ72 which is pretty good given that the subscription costs only ยฃ12.95. Are you subscribed to Birchbox? Are you subscribed to any other beauty boxes? Which is your favourite?

URBAN DECAY – LIQUID MOONDUST EYESHADOW REVIEW

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! I’m currently drowning in work for my dissertation so I won’t be posting as regularly as I’d like to but please bare with me whilst I try and get my life together! Final year seems to be a bit like a circus act – keep all of the plates spinning at once and you’ll be fine. Let one drop and you’ll be missing lectures to catch up on lectures! I just need to keep spinning for a bit longer and it’ll all be worth it (I hope).

This post contains affiliate links

I have another review for you today and this time it’s looking at one of Urban Decay’s Liquid Moondust Eyeshadows in the shade “Chem Trail”. They had a sale just after Christmas and I snapped this up as soon as I saw it! I’m always attracted to anything glittery, shimmery and sparkly so as you can imagine it was only a matter of seconds before we reached the checkout together. I hadn’t heard much about them and I couldn’t figure out if that was because they weren’t great or because they were the underrated dark horse that we hadn’t discovered yet. So, let’s find out.

The Liquid Moondust eyeshadows retail at ยฃ15.50 each, which I think is a bit much. I think ยฃ10 would be a more reasonable price for the 5g of product that we get. The packaging is really pretty. I love the cosmic theme and the way that it catches the light at certain angles. Urban Decay have always done their branding and their packaging right – despite taking the mickey with prices most of the time. When you open up the pretty little box, you’ll find something that looks like Tinker Bell created it herself. I love that you can see the product through the clear tube and the way that the silver font adds some more sparkle.

It’s a no from me. Eyeshadow brushes are ideally meant to be soft and big enough to spread product quickly. This is tiny, stiff and just awkward to use. It’s more of an eyeliner brush which isn’t what it’s sold as so I’m a bit confused as to why they went for this design. Am I just being weird about it? Let me know in the comments what you think.

Note that this swatch shows how the product sits when it’s immediately applied to the skin, not what it looks like blended out – that was too difficult to capture in a photo, which I think says enough anyway!

The formula isn’t chunky thank god. There’s nothing worse than attempting to blend and instead you’re just dragging huge clumps of glitter around. It dries quite quickly too and it didn’t budge until I removed it with a makeup wipe. I would have preferred it to be be more pigmented though, as when I blended it out, it practically disappeared into a very subtle shimmer. When I say blending, it was a bit of a nightmare with that brush…

So, what’s the verdict?

In terms of what I don’t like… If you’re looking for something that makes people stop and ask “what eyeshadow are you wearing?”, I don’t think this is the one for you. However, if you’re looking for a sheer and barely there shimmer on your lids, I’m sure that you will love this product. I might sound really harsh, but for me, this eyeshadow just doesn’t compare to some of the others that I own. If the formula was a little more like the Makeup Revolution Eye Glisten range, I would be buying every shade available! Most of the time when it comes to glitter, I like to go all out, like a glitter ball (don’t judge me) but this is much more…subtle.

That being said, it’s still extremely pretty once it’s blended out and you’ll be looking like Edward Cullen in no time – by that I mean the shimmering, not the fake six pack or the yellow eyes. It’s probably not going to be your night on the town ally but more your summer sidekick. It’s perfect for those days where you quickly need to slap something on sharpish but still look like you’ve made an effort. If you want to go for that “no makeup” makeup look, it would look stunning all over the lids when fully blended out. It’s also exactly what you need when you want to add a touch of sparkle along the lash line, in fact, it’s almost like it was intended for that to be it’s primary use.

If any improvements were to be made, hands down, I’d want a doe-foot applicator, just to make application (shock) a bit easier. I don’t want to faff around with whatever that thing is when I’m trying to get my eye makeup done. I need something that can blend! I think the formula could do with being much more pigmented and less watery. Annoyingly, if you don’t use the product for a while, it separates and all you’ll get is a glittery puddle on your face. Not a fan of that – none of my other liquid eyeshadows do this so that’s a bit of a let down. However, I do really like the way that the shadow works as a subtle shimmer on the eyes. Come to think of it, it could even blend out to be a shimmery highlight on the cheekbones. I’m definitely going to have a play with it and see how I can make it work for me.

5 FACE MASKS THAT YOU NEED IN YOUR LIFE

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! It’s always at this time of year that my skin needs a boost the most. I’m not sure why I’m so shocked by this, every single time January rolls around (actually, I sort of roll into January after all I’ve eaten over Christmas). It’s no surprise that my skin is in protest after all that I’ve put it through! The weather doesn’t help either, my face feels as dry as a raisin. So, I’ve come up with a list of my favourite face masks to battle the blemishes and drench those dry patches. New year, new skin!

L’Orรฉal Paris Pure Clay Blue Algae Blemish Rescue Face Mask

What is it: This mask is an absolute game-changer. It’s the one thing that I’m constantly recommending to everyone. I first tried it last year and since them, I’ve lost count of how many pots I’ve bought since. The mask combines three Pure Clays with Marine Algae extract, known for it’s spot-fighting properties. The mask feels creamy and hydrating and it also smells incredible! These amazing ingredients target pores by unclogging blackheads and reducing the appearance of blemishes. Surprisingly the mask leaves the skin feeling clean and fresh without drying it out whatsoever!

How to use it: After cleansing, I apply a thin layer all over my face. I usually wait for about 10-15 minutes, looking like a Smurf, before washing it off with warm water.

Dr. Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Sleeping Mask

What is it: I love skincare already but masks that work overnight are on another level. I don’t always have an afternoon to sit and wait for a face mask to fix my face. That’s why this Dr. Botanicals mask became an essential in my collection! It’s enriched with Pomegranate Extract, an antioxidant that smoothens and brightens for a glowing and radiant complexion! The mask nourishes dull and thirsty skin, which is perfect for January right? It’s also vegan-friendly and PETA approved too!

How to use it: I apply a thin layer all over my face and then I give it a few minutes to sink in before I hit the hay. Voila! That’s literally all you have to do! When I wake up, my skin feels so soft and refreshed – it’s kind of magic actually. Bye bye dry, hello glow!

Quick Fix Facials – Black Peel Mask

What is it: Quick Fix Facials are one of my favourite brands when it comes to face masks. I’ve always got at least one of their tubes on the go and my latest obsession is this Black Peel Mask. Packed with Activated charcoal, Witch Hazel and Allantoin, the mask targets blocked pores, excess oil and impurities. The charcoal helps to purify the skin by drawing out impurities and dead skin cells. Witch Hazel helps to keep the skin clear and tighten pores. Allantoin smooths the skins texture for a more even complexion. Basically, it gives your skin the deep cleanse that it really needs!

How to use: Apply and thin layer onto dry and cleansed skin, avoiding fine hairs (pain like no other, you’ve been warned) and allow it to dry for about 15-20 minutes before peeling off. Prepare for the most satisfying moment EVER. If you’re really gross like me, you can look at what the mask has drawn out, it’s mind-blowing! If there’s an residue left, you can just wash it off with some warm water and a flannel.

Argan+ – 5-Oil Miracle Clay Mask

What is it: They’ve actually rebranded and this mask is now called “Lift and Renew” and I’ve linked the new version above! This mask is amazing at renewing, nourishing and revitalising the skin. Enriched with Argan Oil and Shea Butter, it helps replenish and smooth fine lines. It also features Kaolin and Green Clay help draw out impurities. I use this mask whenever my skin is looking dull and

How to use it: Apply generously to clean, dry skin and allow to dry. Rinse off with warm water. I tend to use the mask once a week when I’m having a pamper night!

Good Things – Five Minute Facial Anti Blemish Face Mask

What is it: I discovered this in my local T.K. Maxx! They actually seem to be the only place that stock their masks at the moment, but you can always order from their site too. Whenever I can feel the blemishes creeping back – this magical tube comes to the rescue! It’s a multi-tasker, aiming to make your skin clearer, brighter and smoother – all in one go! The ingredients include green clay and kaolin to draw out impurities, avocado oil to nourish and moisturise, goji berry extract to soothe and willow bark extract for radiance. What a combination! When it comes to masks that target blemishes, I always worry that they will dry my skin out, but surprisingly this one leaves my skin feeling silky soft!

How to use: After cleansing, apply a thin layer and allow five minutes for it to dry. Splash with warm water and rinse off using warm water and a flannel. Use weekly.

There we have it ladies and gents! Five face masks that you definitely need in your life! What are your favourite face masks to use? Let me know in the comments! Don’t forget to follow me on my socials – come and say hi!

MY GOALS FOR 2019

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! 2018 has been both good and bad for me. I’ve had some difficult things to deal with, as well as celebrating some amazing achievements too. I want to try and make next year the best it can be and I thought I would share my 10 goals for 2019 with you! I’m hoping that because I have an entire blog post dedicated to this, I have no excuse but to stick with it. This time next year, let’s see how many of these goals I have achieved! I’d love to hear what your goals are for the new year, so be sure to comment some at the end of the post!

When I was younger, I used to read all the time! In the car, at school, before bed – I was always reading something. Even though I’m already struggling to manage my time in my final year of University, I definitely need to make time to read more. I regularly read peoples blog posts but it’s just not the same as having a story to get stuck into. I’m going start the year by absolutely rinsing Amazon’s stock of books! Does anyone have any recommendations, the kind that you can’t put down?

ACE MY FINALS

I’m slowly getting closer and closer to my university finals (as well as handing in my dissertation) and with that comes the pressure to do well. I don’t just want to scrape it, I want to be able to say I did my best and that I achieved a grade that I’m really proud of. So far I’ve been working my socks off so I’m hoping that next year when it comes to my exams, I’ll still be feeling this motivated!

RECOGNISING WHAT I DO WELL

I’m sure the saying goes; “you’re your own worst critic” and that’s very true in my case. I’ve always found it much easier to criticise everything that I do, rather than see the good in it. I will always manage to find a “but…” in response to compliments. I’m like this with my writing, with my singing (I used to perform regularly) and with my academic work. I once sung a massive song (Alive by SIA) and I didn’t hit a note the way that I wanted to. The performance was recorded and all I could think of every time I heard it back was how awful it was, even though nobody else could tell. It’s actually quite exhausting as I never seem to let myself off the hook. I aim to celebrate my successes far more next year. Although it’s good to give myself  some criticism to improve, I need to make sure that I’m not being too harsh!

REACH 3K ON INSTAGRAM

I barely have time to keep up with social media whilst I’m studying but whenever I manage to dedicate the odd 10 minutes to it here and there, it always pays off. In 2019, I’m going to consider it as a side project, so that I always keep it going in the background – even when I’m really busy! My next goal is to hit 3K and fingers crossed I manage it! Be sure to  follow me here!

PUSH MYSELF LITTLE & OFTEN

Last year, I found myself having at least two panic attacks a day and that was almost always because I’d tried to push myself too much. I kept doing things that made me anxious, just to keep everyone else happy or so that I wouldn’t miss out. For example, I sometimes find social things really stressful and at university – that’s hard to get away from! Rather than taking it easy, I kept pushing myself to attend everything which only left me feeling exhausted and deflated. This year, I want to continue to push myself little and often, so that it’s more manageable.

EAT MORE HEALTHY FOOD

Whenever I come home from university, I always lose so much weight and no doubt, it’s down to my eating habits. I share a flat with my boyfriend in central Nottingham, which means we always have access to Deliveroo and UberEats. At home however, the apps don’t work – so you do the math. I need to stop snacking and make sure that I eat proper meals every single day – no excuses! The odd dominos here and there never hurt anyone but I need to restrict myself to one every now and again rather than the nights when I can’t be bothered to cook.

START A YOUTUBE CHANNEL

This has been my dream since I was about 13 years old. I’ve always wanted to be creative and blogging has allowed me to do that, however Youtube has always been what I want to do. After I graduate – I can finally do it! I have the camera and the equipment ready and waiting so all that’s left to do is pick up the camera and go!

HAVE A SORT OUT

One of the things that makes my anxiety worse, is feeling like I’m constantly moving from one place to the next. Since moving to Nottingham and certainly since my Dad moved to Manchester, I feel like I’m constantly packing bags and living out of suitcases. At university, I spend most of my time doing work or in lectures on campus, so it never really feels like home. At my Dad’s, I haven’t had much of a chance to move my things in properly and make my bedroom my own. At mum’s I keep landing and dumping my bags before I have to head off somewhere else – it’s just a mess and I don’t feel at home! You know when you just have piles everywhere and bags that need unpacking? In 2019, once university is done and dusted, I’m diving straight into a (much needed) big sort out!

SUPPORT MORE SMALL BUSINESSES

It’s so easy to stumble into the usual high-street shops or Costa’s but I actually really enjoy discovering new and local places to visit. Since I started working for myself, I’ve realised how much every little helps – especially when it comes to word of mouth. I always like to recommend quirky coffee shops and sweet little gift shops to my friends. In 2019, I want to discover lots more as well as letting others know all about them! I read something the other day, about how Netflix didn’t need to advertise their new film, Birdbox, because we did it all for them on social media! If we can make Netflix some extra cash, think how powerful a like or a share is for a small business.

Join me in December to see how many of these goals I’ve smashed! Let me know what your goals are in the comments too.

THE CHERRY ON TOP? URBAN DECAY’S NAKED CHERRY PALETTE

Hey Everyone,

This post contains affiliate links

I hope you’re all doing well! Ladies and gents, we are gathered here today, to witness the beauty that is the Naked Cherry Palette! Urban Decay’s Naked palettes have always been popular in the beauty community and every time a new one is released, we all go nuts. When we heard about the potential release of a cherry themed palette, we all nearly lost our s#!t. For a start, I love all things cherry! Whether that’s the fruit, the scent or the colour – I’m obsessed. In fact, I was so keen that I ordered the palette during the early release period!

I wanted to review it straight away, so waiting for Blogmas wasn’t easy! I’m glad I did though, as I’m sure lots of you will be adding this to your Christmas lists or buying it for someone special! They’d definitely have to be special considering that the palette retails at a whopping ยฃ42, which is actually ยฃ3 more expensive than the other Naked palettes. Naturally, I assumed that the Naked Cherry would be as close to perfection as possible, otherwise why charge such a high price? Am I right people?

The packaging is stunning! It’s almost the same as the Naked Heat Palette; a glossy plastic exterior with “Naked” embossed on the front. The crimson compact is a beautiful addition to any makeup collection. Not to sound incredibly boring, but I actually prefer the plastic packaging compared to the velvet exterior that certain brands *cough ABH* go for, as they get dirty so quickly! It’s nice to have palettes that are easy to clean, that don’t look gross after a few uses. I love the use of the cherry images too! Inside there’s a full size-mirror, perfect for on-the-go use! The palette also comes with a double-ended brush, which isn’t my favourite, but I have others that I can use instead, so I’m not hugely bothered by this. One end is fab for precision but the other is quite rigid and isn’t great for blending. Next time, I’m hoping for something fluffier! I know this sounds fussy but it actually makes blending a heck of a lot easier, especially for those of us that haven’t got all day to sit and buff shadows into perfection. Apparently, the palette is subtly scented of cherries … all I’m getting is a hint of plastic and a clay-like smell. I’m kind of gutted that they didn’t follow in the sweetly scented footsteps of Too Faced and make this a cherry scent-sation (sorry, I had to). It would’ve been a nice touch, you know?

The Naked Cherry Palette features 12 all-new cherry-hued shades. The range of shades included are fantastic; a gradient ranging from natural neutrals through to dark, rich berry tones. There’s a brilliant balance of mattes (7) and shimmers (5) which is something I always look for when purchasing new palettes. I once (accidentally) bought a palette that only had mattes in it and I’ve never been so disappointed in my life, I could only create basic looks that had no glam (worst nightmare) and it totally limited what I could do with it. There’s so much creativity to be had with the Naked Cherry Palette and I can see lots of amazing looks being created. If you want to add a subtle shimmer you can, but if you want to create a dark and smouldering look, you can do that too, the choice is yours! Top tip: if you’re ever unsure of where to start with a new palette, look up what others are doing on Pinterest and you’ll find plenty of inspiration there!

Hot Spot Pale ivory matte – I was actually so surprised at how pigmented this one was! It swatched beautifully with only a tiny bit of fallout.

CautionMatte peachy beige – This shade literally couldn’t be a better match to my skin-tone! I’ll definitely be using this as a base before applying anything else as it’s PERFECT. It’s also surprisingly pigmented too although it does feel a tiny bit powdery.

Bang BangMetallic pink-coral with gold shift – I was so excited about this shade when I first saw it. It was quite dusty so I’d say a little bit goes a long way with this one. It’s so pigmented already but I noticed a huge difference when I applied it with a wet brush. It’s literally the perfect sparkly pink!

FeelzDusty warm rose matte – In terms of coverage, it wasn’t quite as pigmented as the first two shades in the palette, so I was a little disappointed when I swatched it. However it can be intensified with a primer! I feel like it could have been better though, which isn’t much fun to say after I’ve paid this much money…

Juicy Matte, soft & warm peach/coral – I really love using shades like this in Spring, when all of the flowers are out and everything is looking much brighter and prettier! Is it just me that tries to tie their makeup in with the seasons or…? It’s somewhat semi-opaque, and it took a bit of work to get it all the way there, however because it’s so pretty, I’m up for using it with primers to get the most out of it!

Turn OnSoft metallic rose pink– This is what I’m talking about people! I absolutely LOVE this shade. It’s pretty, it’s pigmented and it’s rose gold – what more could you want? It looks so bright and shiny on the lid and adds a touch glam to any look in seconds. However, I’m not sure what I’m going to say when someone asks what I’m wearing in public – “oh it’s just turn on on my lids, orgasm on my cheeks and a few coats of better than sex on my lashes”. If you want to get everything you can out of this shade, apply it with a wet brush or finger – trust me!

AmbitiousMetallic Rusty-copper shimmer – I was kind of disappointed with this one. It looks very pretty when applied carefully, however if you’re wanting to go all out on the lid, it seems to lose it’s shine and becomes quite dull after a while. I’m not sure whether or not that’s intentional but I’m not the biggest fan. I tend to use a very thin layer of it to try and keep it subtle and sparkly.

BingMatte muted pink-mauve – I really like this shade! The coverage is amazing and what I’d hoped all of the mattes in the palette would be like. It feels very smooth and buttery and is incredibly easy to blend. More like this please Urban Decay!

Devilish Pink-plum matte with warm undertones – I found this one a bit patchy and I’m not sure why, given how nice the formula of Bing was. I’m usually able to increase it’s opacity by using a primer and layering it slightly, so I still enjoy using it.

Young Love Metallic magenta/cranberry pink – Isn’t it beautiful? Another formula that I absolutely love! I like that it’s cool toned too, as it means I can combine it with purples and blues for an icier look this Winter. When applied dry, the sparkle seems to fade much faster but if I apply it wet, it looks amazing for hours!

Drunk DialMetallic Burgundy Plum – I love using this shade in the outer corners of my lids, especially when I want to darken a look and add some drama. It’s pigmented and the colour payoff is amazing. It’s also so creamy and buttery to blend out – another formula I am a huge fan of! Again, it loses it’s sheen after a while so I always apply it wet.

PrivacyMatte Deep reddish-brown – I always hope for a dark brown shade in every palette because let’s be honest, we’d be lost without them. They’re key for making smokey eyes in seconds and they’re perfect for defining any look. I’d describe it as semi-opaque, you can see in the swatches it was slightly patchy, but all it takes is a little more work than usual and it looks gorgeous as a result. Sometimes it can sheer out slightly after a few hours so I’d recommend applying it with a tiny bit of a pigmented black shade in order to keep it looking dark and dramatic for as long as possible!

So, what do I think?

In terms of what I didn’t like, my main concerns are around the formulas and the price tag. A few of the matte shades required a fair bit of building and I noticed a few of the shimmers tended to sheer out after application. This isn’t the end of the world, it’s just a tiny bit annoying. I think the price tag is excessive. I’m all for brands trying new things and learning from their mistakes, but if a price tag as hefty as ยฃ42 is going to be justified, I’d expect everything to be near enough perfect. Maybe it’s just me, but if I’m paying this much, I don’t really want to have anything bad to say about it. It makes me wince a little when I think of what else I could spend my money on *bank account cries in the distance*.

That being said, I think Urban Decay are onto something special! I like that they’re beginning to create palettes based on a particular themes – we got the beautiful oranges and browns in the Naked Heat and now we have the pinks and plums in the Naked Cherry! It makes me excited for what they will release next. I actually like this palette a lot, despite the fact that I think there’s a few improvements to be made. I love the shades, the colours, the packaging and the theme – it has a lot going for it! I love the balance between mattes and shimmer and I think that the palette is going to be loved by those that are just starting out as well as the experienced MUAs out there. It oozes creativity and I can’t wait to see what people are doing with it! Would I recommend this palette? Yes definitely! But only if you’re happy to use lots of wet brushes and primers! If you love cherries, all things pink and purple – go for it!

2018 BLOGMAS LIFE LIFESTYLE REVIEWS

CAPTIVATED BY CASEAPP (AGAIN)*

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well! Welcome to Blogmas Day 8! Today we’re revisiting the wonderful world of CaseApp, who kindly gifted me two of their cases to share with you guys on my blog. I worked with CaseApp earlier this year (read that post here) and I have been hooked on their products ever since! For those of you that haven’t seen my post or heard about CaseApp, I’ll explain how it all works below!

*Gifted Items

One of the things that I love about CaseApp is that the whole website is super easy to navigate. Straight away, you know what your options are. They offer hundreds of pre-made designs or if you’re feeling creative, you can create your own personalised phone case or laptop skin from scratch. CaseApp have accessories for Iphones, Androids, Macbooks, Ipads โ€“ thereโ€™s just so much choice.

Here are some of my favourite designs! There’s such a variety to choose from. You can go for abstract, tropical and even watercolour! There’s literally pages and pages of different designs to look at, so there’s bound to be something you’ll love. It’s also perfect if you’re picking out a gift for someone too! You can even choose between a matte or glossy finish and there’s a “tough” option too, for those that have been known to drop their devices from time to time…(guilty)

I ended up going for a case for my iPad and a new case for my phone. Blogging often means that I’m travelling with lots of different devices, so instead of risking them getting damaged, I always make sure they have cases on them. I’m all about bright colours and patterns so of course, I went for two vibrant designs. I needed something that I could spot when my bedroom is at its messiest! I opted for the glossy finish, just because I think it looks nicer than matte – I quite like the shiny look.

CaseApp send their cases in the cutest little bags and I love this little extra detail. Mine came in a marble pouch, which I’ll have to find a use for because it’s so pretty – any ideas? I chose the “Blue Peacock” iPhone 8 case because I love the design and I think it looks so quirky! I love the tropical vibes too.

How cute is this? This is the “Abstract” iPad mini case and I think it’s my favourite design on the site. I love the combination of pastes with the black dots! It’s so much more interesting to look at than my old, plain red case. I’m obsessed! They actually have a great range of abstract designs on their website so if that’s your thing, definitely go and have a look for yourself.

How cute are these? I’m so happy with them! Both were easy to snap onto my iPhone and my iPad – no faffing necessary. They keep my devices protected and they look cute at the same time! I really recommend using CaseApp if you’re considering purchasing some amazing cases or skins for your devices. Their products aren’t just easy on the eye but they are also made really well. The quality is great!

What do you think of these cases? Which ones would you choose? Let me know in the comments! Iโ€™ve linked all of my social media below so come and say hi as I love to hear from you! If you decide to order some goodies, go ahead and use my discount codeย 20NINALOUISELAWย for 20% off! Check out CaseApp here!
